Just wanted to share our success & this might work in your salon.
We are having 2 referral promotions right now. For the established stylists, we give each client 2 of our business cards. We write on them, example " Monica Hill referred me!". We then tell Monica as she leaves, please give these cards to 2 of your friends & when we get both of these cards back, Monica received a free glossing service. 
The second deal is for the new talent that are just starting out. They are giving out 2 cards to each client as well but their cards offer the 2 new clients 50% off their first service & the initial client that sent the 2 referral clients receives her next touch-up service for free. All stylists go ahead and re-book initial client for their 6 week and thank them in advance for helping us build our business. Our clients make sure they get those people in the door because they can't wait to get their reward in 6 weeks! 
We have mirror clings on our mirror at our stations and bathroom telling our clients to ask us how to receive a free service. So even if a stylist is slacking, the client will ask for it, ha!
We are loving the results. Hope this helps some of you.
